Meet Our Team

Winnie Jiang is in her fourth year majoring in Anthropology and minoring in Creative Writing. She is passionate about compassionate leadership, and fostering an inclusive and empowering environment within the UBC RISE community. Aside from academics, Winnie enjoys cafe hopping, spending time by the waterfront, and starting graphic design drafts that will never be finished. She is also passionate about learning languages and has self-taught 2 and a half.

Mark is a second-year student at Sauder and RISE's Treasurer for this year. He's obsessed with korean barbeque, EXTREMELY fluffly pancakes, all things sashimi! This year, he's looking forward to experiencing his first fall and winter season abroad. Whenever he's not stressing over his criminal lack of sleep, you can always find him camping out at Grand Noodle. With a passion for forming new relationships, Mark can't wait to work with RISE's wonderful execs and future community and student partners!

Kelly is a third year kinesiology student and she loves hiking and cycling in her free time. She is excited to continue her journey with UBC RISE as the internal director.

Sabrina is currently a second year student in Cellular, Anatomical and Physiological Sciences (CAPS). She loves doing anything adventurous like skydiving or ziplining and you can find her eating candy in her free time. Her hobbies include watching movies, reading books or hanging out with friends. Sabrina is excited to be joining the UBC RISE team and planning some exciting events!

Annabel is a second-year student pursing a sociology major and master of management dual degree. She is the community outreach co-director for RISE this year! Annabel is known to be a wholesome and empathetic individual who cares about others. Being able to think in others’ shoes and having an avid passion to help has made her a supporter and confidant to those around her. In terms of hobbies, her biggest one is travelling with her family and friends. With a genuine love and curiosity for humanity, she adores learning about different cultures' ways of living and taking in new perspectives of the world!

Ran is a fourth-year majoring in Microbiology and Immunology, with a minor in Oceanography. Ran is the corporate relations director for RISE this year and this is his first year in RISE! Outside of school, he enjoys K-Pop dancing and learning new choreography. He also enjoys outdoor activities, including hiking, skiing and scuba diving.

Ansley Wong is UBC RISE’s Student Outreach IGNITE Director. She is currently a 3rd year LFS student, majoring in Food Nutrition & Health. Ansley is dedicated to inspiring others and offering guidance to those who are interested in continuing their education in post-secondary. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, learning new languages, and practicing calligraphy. A fun fact about Ansley is that she loves making Spotify playlists for every occasion and mood. This year, she hopes to create opportunities and meaningful experiences for students that will IGNITE their passion for academia.

Known for her passion with music and superiority complex, Clarissa spends most of her time disassociating and going to concerts! She enjoys going on hikes, listening to music, and meeting new people. In her free time, she likes going to different restaurants and trying new food. Feel free to reach out to her if you have any music recommendations or would like to chat about music because she can go on about it for days!

Meet Manya, our social media coordinator, who is pivotal in shaping our digital footprint and engagement. With her creative flair and strategic approach, she orchestrates our online presence with finesse. Her ability to curate captivating content, stay on top of trending topics, and foster meaningful connections with our audience sets her apart as a digital maestro.

Stephanie is a 4th year electrical engineering student at UBC. She joined RISE in her first year of university on the graphics team, and feels lucky to have been able to stay with the team ever since! In her free time, Stephanie enjoys biking, journalling, and reading.

Munira is in her second year pursuing an arts degree in political science. She is passionate about building interpersonal connections and fortifying communities as it applies to sociomateriality and intersectionality. She's an avid movie, music, and book lover, and in her free time you can find her browsing various thrift stores around Vancouver! This year Munira is thrilled to be working with the UBC RISE team and aiding UBC and Vancouver's respective communities.

Rachel is a second-year student pursuing a Business + Computer Science (BUCS) degree. Her hobbies include karaoke, playing PokemonGO on the streets, immersing herself in anime at home, and solving puzzles in escape rooms. On campus, you'll often spot her at Sauder in the CLC, where she's busy with her studies, or sipping coffee at any Tim Hortons!

Chloe is her first year in the Faculty of Arts, intending to major in Political Science. She enjoys reading and diy projects (even when they don't always turn out) in her free time. She also likes to explore and try new places wherever she goes. She is always up for a challenge and is passionate about making a difference in whatever way she can. She is excited to be serving as one of UBC Rise's Corporate Relations Coordinators this year.

Kara is a third year student majoring in Political Science and Law and Society. As a community outreach coordinator with RISE, she hopes to work with her fellow students in aiding Vancouver’s vulnerable sectors and population. In her spare time, she enjoys reading science-fantasy books and watching otter videos.

Sara is a third-year political science major who is thrilled to be one of our Community Outreach Coordinators! Besides her academic pursuits, Sara finds joy in afternoon hikes, going out for food with her friends, and binging her favourite shows. Sara became part of the UBC Rise team this year and has already established so many amazing connections and is excited to create more this year. Overall, Sara cannot wait to collaborate with her peers and work towards creating a positive impact on our community.

Simon Zhu is a fourth year student studying Microbiology and Immunology. In his spare time he likes to play sports like basketball and train Taekwondo which he started back in elementary school. He enjoys watching anime, especially shonen and his favourite is Naruto. Simon is excited to be a part of UBC RISE and organize events with like-minded individuals to help marginalized people in our community.

Hana is a 2nd-year Sauder student intending to specialize in Accounting. She is the Student Outreach Events Coordinator for UBC RISE. Her personality includes being an ENTJ and liking Laufey. Outside of school, she likes to sleep (because sleep is a luxury nowadays), sing at karaoke, and try new restaurants. Here are some of her other favourite things: bubble tea! (basic human necessity), fall season (except midterms), and putting parentheses within lists (especially this one).

Ananya is a second year Bcom student at Sauder and the Community Outreach Coordinator at RISE. She loves travelling, and trying different cuisines. Fun fact about Ananya is that she is always updated with all the celebrity gossips at all times!

Meet Samia, a dedicated Corporate Relations Coordinator at UBC RISE, currently in her second year at Sauder. Her passions include a love for dogs, a penchant for crosswords and Wordle, a fiery appreciation for spicy cuisine, and an avid enjoyment of sitcoms, with "B99" holding a special place in her heart. As a typical Sagittarius, she's marked by her unwavering optimism and an adventurous spirit that defines her outlook on life.

With a deep passion for volunteer work, Saumya is actively engaged in the Red Cross Friendly Calls program, where she extends a caring and friendly hand to those in need. Alongside her commitment to volunteerism, she has delved into psychology and mental health, completing various online workshops and courses covering diverse topics like sports, fashion, health, psycho-oncology, and positive psychology, etc.

In her free time, you can often find Saumya dancing, cycling or immersing herself in the world of books. Her enthusiasm for personal growth and community service shines through in all she does.
